As I'm typing this post, I am sweaty, my face is smudged with leftover makeup, and I have songs running through my head that I have no desire of hearing again. And you know what? It's worth it. Tonight was my school's homecoming dance (homecoming crew pictured to the left) and, although I started counting down the time until I could go home and sleep, it was great. I was with a ton of people (an extrovert's dream) and got to goof around and 'dance' with my friends. Sure, I knew probably five songs played, but everything was perfect in the end.
There are times in life where you're having fun and you feel the need to make a fool of yourself. The best thing to do is just go nuts, despite the glances you may get from other people. Chances are, they're not going to have as much fun as you're having. Sometimes just doing what you feel like can make the rest of your day/that even better. So, please, make a fool of yourself. It's worth it
I was standing with a friend of mine, everyone around us dancing the same way, and Mikayla was just having the time of her life doing what she wanted. She couldn't do what everyone was doing but she could do what she was doing. Seeing Mikayla so carefree and making the most of what she had brought a smile to myself and nudged me to join along in the awkward flailing of limbs. We didn't know any of the songs playing, we didn't particularly want to take part in what other people were doing, we just 'danced' the way we felt and got just as much out of those three hours as the people mimicking those around them.
Now, I'm not saying that you should always strive to be different from everyone else, because that could honestly feel uber weird. What I'm saying is that it won't kill you to just do you. Another friend of mine often has told me, "You do you, Homie" and, yeah, I laugh at that but it's true! You just need to do you [homie] and there's a possibility that things will feel so much natural and amazingerer because of it. There are times when you're doing you while also doing another person. That's okay! It doesn't mean you aren't doing you! By doing you, you are being who God created you to be and shining as His beautiful life, and that is TOTALLY worth it :)
